A client wanted a distinctive gift for his girlfriend’s June birthday. Alexandrite, one of June’s birthstones, gave him a way to combine a birthday connection with a fascinating colour change.
Choosing the pendant stone
We presented several choices and he selected the stone he preferred. The original photographs show the alexandrite pendant and its contrasting appearances. The strength and colours of the change differ between individual gems.

Compare the gem in daylight and warm indoor lighting, using suitable lamps. Keep it away from candle flames and lighters: heat is not needed to see the effect. A photograph can introduce the idea, but an in-person comparison is more informative.
