Our 2024 Christmas feature gathered rubies, coloured diamonds, sapphire, colour change gems and jade for collectors considering a substantial gift. These are historical examples; check current availability and documentation for an individual purchase.
Ruby examples
The original selection described a 7.23 ct heated Myanmar ruby in an 18K yellow gold diamond ring, with an SSEF report; a pair of pear-shaped rubies totalling 16.62 ct described as Afghan and unheated with GIA reports; and a 5.88 ct ruby described as material from Mong Hsu, Myanmar.
Those are descriptions from the feature. Review the reports and confirm that they match the stones. Heating, clarity enhancement and other treatment findings need careful reading. The earlier claim of a fixed twentyfold price difference between heated and unheated stones has been removed: there is no universal multiplier.
See the listed 7.23 ct ruby ring for current details.
Coloured diamonds and sapphire
The feature also included five yellow diamonds totalling 4.43 ct, a 7.10 ct sapphire and eighteen coloured diamonds totalling 8.59 ct. A laboratory report’s quality and origin conclusions should be read separately from trade descriptions of a mine or location. A diamond report does not automatically substantiate a named mine.
Colour change gems and jade
Alexandrite, colour change sapphire, tourmaline and garnet offered light effects. Jade appeared as a brooch, cabochon and bangle. Ask what supports each material’s identity, treatment and condition, rather than grouping every item under one quality claim.
Build a considered collection
Start with what you enjoy, a budget you can sustain and clear records. A report supports information within its scope; it is not a monetary valuation or a promise of resale returns. Arrange a viewing to compare pieces and discuss their individual details.

Questions buyers ask
Is an unheated ruby always worth a fixed multiple more?
No. Appearance, size, condition, treatment, documentation and market context all matter; there is no universal multiplier.
