A bespoke engagement ring develops through discussion, design, technical planning and craftsmanship. One real project shows how those stages turned a client’s three diamonds into a ring she could enjoy wearing.
1. Share your ideas
Begin with the wearer’s style, preferred gemstones, daily activities and a comfortable budget. Bring reference photographs or existing gems if you have them. The first conversation helps define what you want the finished piece to do.
2. Develop the design
Joy brought a 0.63 ct fancy colour diamond and two 0.12 ct diamonds. We explored ideas on paper, keeping hand drawing as part of the process. Her chosen design used a centre diamond in prongs beneath two smaller diamonds in tube bezels, with decorative leaves on the shank inspired by architectural supports.
The centre stone showed different colour impressions from different perspectives. Its appearance helped guide the design; any formal colour or origin description should follow the available report.
3. Plan the materials and construction
After agreeing a sketch, discuss metal, finish, stone measurements and setting details. Colour renderings can help compare metal options. A technical drawing at the intended scale helps move an idea towards manufacture.
4. Make and review the piece
The original project described hand craftsmanship in Singapore. Completion time depends on the design, materials and work required, so agree an estimate and approval stages before production. Review fit, finish and the care arrangements when collecting the finished ring.
