The 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians helped spark conversations about statement jewellery in our shop. Some visitors wanted a large coloured gemstone ring with the presence of the rings they had seen on screen.
What makes a statement ring?
Colour, shape, face-up dimensions and the setting can all create presence. A large stone is one route, but it is not the only one. Try comparable designs on a hand to see whether their height, weight and proportions suit you.
Emerald inspiration
Our original article included an on-screen photograph of Eleanor Young, played by Michelle Yeoh, credited to Warner Bros. It also showed our own emerald ring described as a 24 ct centre with two 1.5 ct side diamonds. The example records a past feature rather than today’s availability.
For an emerald, ask about identity, clarity enhancement, condition and supporting reports. A glamorous photograph does not establish whether an individual stone is untreated or free from fractures.
Other colours and materials
Amethyst, citrine, topaz, tourmaline and zircon offer different appearances and care needs. Our original photographs included an 8.82 ct amethyst as an alternative example. The earlier per-carat price illustrations have been removed because they are not current quotations.
Choose a piece for your life
Use the film as inspiration, then set your own budget and compare the actual gems. A design should feel comfortable and personal as well as memorable. Image credit for the film still: Warner Bros.
